U.M.W. Bazaar

The annual U.M.W. bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 3rd from 8am-2pm at FUMC. The United Methodist Women will be serving coffee and homemade rolls from 8-10am. A delicious lunch will be served from 11am-1pm. Lunch includes their famous chicken casserole, lettuce salad, applesauce, a hot roll, and homemade dessert. They will be selling many varieties of homemade candy along with crafts, baked goods, and jewelry.

South Africa 2019 Mission Trip

THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 31ST! PLEASE CONTACT JORDAN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED! 

It is time to sign up for our South Africa mission trip! The deadline to sign up and submit your deposit is October 28, 2018.  If you are interested in or certain about going on this trip please contact Jordan to sign up! Please do this even if you have spoken with him already!

DATES: July 25th- August 5/6, 2019 (this will depend on flights which we cannot confirm until we have an official sign up list). Total days will be 12/13.

COST: $2,400 (this includes everything besides individual spending money; there will be plenty of opportunities to buy snacks and there will be a day in the market) (THERE IS A $100 NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT THAT SECURES YOUR SPOT ON THIS TRIP)
***THIS TRIP’S COST WILL BE BROKEN DOWN INTO PAYMENTS! FAILURE TO MEET THE PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS BY DEADLINES WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF SPOT ON THE TRIP! FUNDRAISING AND OTHER AID WILL BE AVAILABLE BUT INDIVIDUAL FUNDRAISING IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED!

MISSIONS STUFF: We will be partnering with Engage Africa, an established ministry in Rustenburg. We will be assisting in updates and outreach for their new and existing church sites, carrying out a VBS experience, doing outreach in Freedom Park (a squatter camp and high AIDS population), hosting sports camps for kids in different areas, and of course creating relationships with many, many people! (Something to keep in mind is that we will be ready to serve the needs present at the time of arrival; this list may, and probably will, be longer!)

FUN STUFF: We will have a day in the market, go on a Game Drive (aka Safari), and take part in some of South Africa’s cultural experiences.

Service in the Park

Sunday, September 23rd we will have one (1) service at 10:30 am at Peterson Park Pavilion with a potluck to follow at noon!

There will be no Sunday school or morning cafe. We will be worshipping together in the park and fellowshipping together over lunch!

Administrative Council Meeting Minutes

May 7, 2018     7:00 p.m.

Champion Classroom

 

Paul Schabbing called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Council members present were: Mike Albin, Paul Schabbing, Mike Smith, Jordan Thomas, Dave Ropiequet, Mona Buckley, Guy Loucks, Don Hance, Tammie Young, Shelly Ashby, Justin Florey, Steve Ferguson and Dora Dallas.  Guests present were: Morgan Hampton, Sophie Collings, Randall & Nancy Ross, Linda & Dave Schilling, Mike Lefever, Jim & Cheryl Johns, Debbie Albin, Mike Bradd, Burt & Kathy Wright and Scott McDevitt.

Paul explained the process for the evening, limiting each person to 2-3 minutes so that everyone could speak.  Jordan Thomas opened with prayer and Guy Loucks read the proposal to change the Sunday Morning Service and made a motion to accept.  Mona Buckley seconded.  Much discussion followed before a vote.

Pastor Mike made a motion to change the “rules” for the voting for just the meeting and allow everyone in the room to be a board member for the day, so that they could vote on the changes at hand.  Mona seconded.  Motion carried

Mike Albin Made a motion to change #6 on the Sunday morning schedule to change the breakfast downstairs from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.  Randall seconded.  Motion did not pass.

Mike Albin made a motion to change #9 of the motion.  He would like to change “will be implemented on June 10th through year end” to “will be implemented on June 10th through October 31”.  Steve Ferguson seconded.  Motion carried.

Randall Ross moved to table the final vote until May 21 until further data could be gathered.  Mike Albin seconded.  Motion did not pass.

The final vote for the evening was for Guy Loucks’ motion to accept the proposal to Change the Sunday Morning Schedule, with the change to #9 that was previously passed.   16 voted to accept, 5 voted against.   Motion carried.

Dave Schilling made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:10.

2nd Wind-Patriotic Concert at Richard’s Farm

There is a dinner and concert at Richard’s Farm on Thursday, June 21.  The theme is “Celebrate America Family Style”.  You must reserve your seat by Monday, June 4.  The meal is at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $25 and departure from the church is 4:45 p.m.  The sign-up sheet is at the Welcome Desk.

UMW

Mary Circle will meet Monday, June 11 at 1:3o p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  The program will be a speaker from Choices, formerly known as Crisis Pregnancy Center.  Members are asked to bring a package of diapers, any size.  We will also be making a monetary gift from our circle treasury.

 UMW Garden Walk

The Garden Walk, “Gather at the Garden” will be held Saturday, June 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  Tickets will be available in the church office and DeBuhr’s on Broadway Ave.  Presold tickets are $7 and then will be $8 the day of the event and can be purchased at any of the gardens.

 Men’s Breakfast

The men will meet at Denny’s on Saturday, June 9 at 7 a.m.  Join them for some wonderful fellowship!

 Food Center Pre-Pack

Help is always needed at the Community Food Center.   Pre-Pack will be Tuesday, June 12 at 5:30 p.m.   See Larry Dennis for more information.

Dinosaur Night!

On April 25th, the Preschool group at Downtown Kids had a dinosaur night! The kids learned about creation while the painted, hatched dinosaur eggs, read dinosaur books, and played dinosaur games.  It was a blast!
