United Methodist Women
At Mattoon First, our United Methodist Women’s organization is making a difference in the world….by planning mission programs, raising funds for local, national, and global mission projects, and growing together in fellowship and faith. The local UMW consists of two “Circles”, which are small groups, each with its own focus, that meet monthly. We invite and welcome women of all ages to join hands with us in mission and caring!
The men of Mattoon First meet at 7:00 am on every second Saturday (except December) at the Downtown Diner, 1626 Broadway Ave, Mattoon, for food, fellowship and growth. We buy our own breakfast and share our thoughts on a topic of relevance every month. The meeting is over by 8:30 am but some men leave earlier as needed. Dress is casual and the atmosphere is inclusive.
For older adults (about 50 and older) there is a monthly fellowship called, “Second Wind.” The group usually takes a trip to an event or attraction. Travel is usually in the church’s comfortable van.
The Future’s Group currently meets during the Sunday School hour (9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.) in Room 101. Future’s is a group of mostly young adults with young children, however anyone is invited! We split up our time between a short lesson and fellowship. Topics we regularly touch upon are: parenting, aging and sick loved ones, how to deal with work/family balance, and personal milestones. We recently concluded the 5 Love Languages of Children. Sunday School Classes / Nursery is available for all ages of children and youth during this time!
